Eligibility Basics

• Qualification: Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university
• Age: 21–32 years for General category, with standard category relaxations
• Attempts: 6 for General, 9 for OBC, unlimited (within age limit) for SC/ST
• Final-year students can apply, provided they produce proof of passing before Mains

The Three-Stage Structure

• Months 7–9: Begin answer-writing practice for Mains. This is where most aspirants underprepare — knowing content and being able to write 150-word structured answers under time pressure are different skills.
• Months 10–12: Full-length Prelims mock tests weekly, with rigorous analysis of every mistake. Revise rather than adding new sources.

Mistakes That Cost Aspirants a Year

• Collecting too many sources: Multiple books per subject creates the illusion of progress. One good source, revised five times, beats five sources read once.
• Delaying answer writing: Content knowledge without writing practice fails at Mains. Start writing within your first 6 months.
