What Happens Next
The RRB Group D CBT 2026 (CEN 09/2025) concluded on 25 August 2026, after 16 exam days spanning 3–25 August across three shifts daily. Approximately 87 lakh candidates appeared for 22,195 Level-1 vacancies — making it one of the largest recruitment examinations in the world this year.
With the exam complete, every candidate now has the same questions: When does the answer key come? What's the expected cutoff? When is the result? Here's the complete post-exam roadmap based on RRB's established process.
Post-Exam Timeline — What to Expect
| CBT Completed | 25 August 2026 |
| Answer Key Release | Expected within 2–4 weeks of the last exam day (Sept 2026) |
| Objection Window | Typically 5–7 days after answer key, with per-question fee |
| Result Declaration | Expected October–November 2026 (based on previous cycles) |
| PET (Physical Test) | After CBT result, for shortlisted candidates |
| DV & Medical | Final stages before appointment |
Exact dates are announced only by RRB — timeline above is based on the pattern of previous Group D cycles. The CEN 08/2024 cycle's result, for reference, came roughly 6 months after its CBT ended.
How the Answer Key Process Works
- RRB releases the provisional answer key along with your question paper and response sheet on the official portal
- Log in with your registration number and password to view your attempted responses against the key
- Calculate your estimated score: +1 per correct answer, −1/3 per wrong answer (100 questions, 90 minutes format)
- If you find an incorrect answer in the key, raise an objection within the window, with supporting evidence — a fee applies per challenged question (refunded if your objection is upheld)
- The final answer key incorporating valid objections is used for result calculation
Understanding Normalization
Since the exam ran across 16 days and multiple shifts, difficulty naturally varied between sessions. RRB applies score normalization to make marks comparable across shifts — meaning your final normalized score may be slightly higher or lower than your raw calculated score, depending on your shift's relative difficulty. This is standard practice and works in favor of candidates who faced harder shifts.
Expected Cutoff Factors
- 87 lakh candidates for 22,195 posts — roughly 390 candidates per seat, making this cycle highly competitive
- Cutoffs vary by RRB zone, category, and post preference — there is no single national cutoff
- Previous cycle cutoffs are a reference point but not a guarantee — this cycle's smaller vacancy count (22,195 vs 32,438 last cycle) may push cutoffs higher
- Remember: CBT score alone decides shortlisting for PET — the physical test is qualifying, not scored

JOIN NOWStart PET Preparation Now — Don't Wait for the Result
A common mistake: candidates wait for the CBT result before starting physical preparation, then scramble when PET dates arrive with short notice. The PET typically involves:
- Male candidates: Lifting and carrying weight over a set distance, plus a timed run
- Female candidates: Similar structure with adjusted weight and distance standards
If your self-calculated score looks competitive for your zone and category, begin conditioning now — running stamina and lifting practice take weeks to build, and PET is strictly qualifying with no second chances within a cycle.
⚠️ Beware of Fake Result & "Score Change" Scams
After every large exam, fraudsters circulate fake "early result" links and offer to "improve scores" for payment. RRB results come only through official regional RRB websites — scores cannot be changed by anyone, and anyone claiming otherwise is committing fraud. Never share your registration credentials or pay anyone claiming result influence.
