UIDAI ANNOUNCEMENT
Free Aadhaar Update
Till June 2026

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the free online Aadhaar document update facility until 14 June 2026 — giving citizens extra time to update their Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents at no cost through the myAadhaar portal.

This matters more than it might seem: outdated Aadhaar information can cause failed authentication for banking, mobile SIM verification, government scheme disbursements (like PM Kisan or scholarship transfers), and exam registrations that require Aadhaar-based verification.

Who Should Update Their Aadhaar

  • Anyone who has never updated their Aadhaar since original enrollment
  • Residents who have changed address, name, or other personal details
  • Anyone whose last update was over 10 years ago — UIDAI recommends refreshing documents at this interval

What Requires an In-Person Visit

Some corrections can only be made offline at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Enrolment Centre, with original documents for verification:

  • Date of birth corrections
  • Gender correction
  • Photograph update
  • Biometric updates (fingerprint, iris)

Aadhaar Updates for Exam & Scheme Applications

If you're applying for exams like NEET, JEE Main, or scheme-linked benefits, make sure your Aadhaar details are updated before filling out the application — a name or photo mismatch between Aadhaar and your certificates can cause delays or rejection during verification. Correction windows in exam applications are typically short, so don't wait until the last date.

Related: Aadhaar-PAN Linking

Separately from document updates, all PAN holders were required to link Aadhaar with PAN by 31 December 2025 — failure to do so deactivates the PAN card. If your PAN has been deactivated for this reason, resolving it typically requires completing the linking process along with any applicable penalty, through the Income Tax e-filing portal.

⚠️ Only Use the Official myAadhaar Portal

Update your Aadhaar only through myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. Third-party websites or apps claiming to "update Aadhaar" can be phishing attempts designed to steal your personal documents and OTP. Never share your Aadhaar OTP with anyone claiming to update it on your behalf.
